Ranplan Wireless, developer of the world’s first combined 5G indoor and outdoor planning, optimisation, management and visualisation platform, makes significant advances to its software solutions with the launch of PRO 6.1 – a landmark release that brings 5G NR enhancements, a novel network device database, a full array of eye-opening features, and improved user experience to the marketplace.

Key functional augmentations in Ranplan PRO 6.1:
5G NR System Modelling & Analysis and Management
Of all enhancements, one of the most central is the flexibility to configure 5G frameworks as required to meet increased network accuracy. New features advancing massive MIMO beamforming have also been added giving users the advantage of being able to conveniently model massive MIMO antennas and visualise massive MIMO beamforming patterns in 3D. Beamforming interference modelling has been incorporated to help users calculate inter-beam interference so that neighbouring beams can be optimised and managed for optimal SINR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) performance.
Other key elements that augment the utility of the software include uplink throughput calculation with MIMO support, ease of customisation of SINR metrics, throughput mapping tables in the 5G NR system database and mmWave foliage calculations.

- High-Performance Computing (HPC) boosts performance of Ranplan Maxwell, Ranplan’s vector-based 3D ray-tracing / launching propagation engine, by one (10x) or possibly two (100x) orders of magnitude, depending on available computing resources.
In step with customers’ functional requirements:
- Public Safety
Refinements have been made to fully support the modelling of P25, Tetra and other public safety communication systems, catering to the requirements of all Public Safety / First responders. Crucially, RF Engineers can now model and simulate uplink and downlink path signals separately to ensure that signals meet minimum reliable two-way communication criteria set by local authorities
- Digital DAS capability
PRO 6.1 is capable of managing multi-core fibre, SFP, source planning, CPRI and eCPRI, WDM technology modelling to help designers take full advantage of the functionality enabled by modern digital DAS platforms
- Onsite 3D modelling & visualisation
An entirely fresh addition to Ranplan’s onsite survey and planning tool, Ranplan Tablet, is the ability for users to easily generate 3D building models. Coverage and capacity heatmaps of all floors of a building can also now be viewed in 3D for greater onsite analysis.
Facilitating lifecycle management of network devices
- Network Device Database Management
Available either as an integrated database within Ranplan’s software solutions or as a stand-alone product which can be integrated with third party tools is Ranplan Device Hub. With the assistance of this innovative device database, OEM customers can easily control accessibility to sensitive data, monitor usage through a customisable dashboard, and, importantly, manage network devices through their whole lifecycle, resulting in material savings on both CAPEX and OPEX.
The launch of PRO 6.1 is accompanied by a number of webinars focusing on key themes, notably Public Safety, Digital DAS, 5G NR, the full set of feature enhancements, HetNets (indoor and outdoor in coordination), as well as a special session on private LTE/5G which is attracting increasing interest globally.
